“Stunning hidden gem”

It was a perfect romantic and relaxing getaway. The location is fabulous and so quiet. We woke up watching the whales playing in the ocean and fell asleep with the stars and the sounds of the waves. The service was perfect and personal. Liz and her team were friendly, helpful and discreet. The food plentiful and delicious. The fact that it is an eco lodge is a welcome added bonus with fish and seafood caught in a sustainable way. The pictures on the website are nice but the atmosphere of the place is much better! So peaceful and stress free (thanks to the team) that you start relaxing as soon as you get there. I feel lucky and privileged to have stayed there. Having visited many unique places across the globe, this one stands out. You won't find anywhere better around Tofo and Barra beaches. We were sorry to leave. Don't miss it.

“Completely Revitalizing Break”

I feel very privileged to have had the opportunity to visit this beautiful, peaceful place. The ocean views from my room and from every part of the lodge were so so stunning and the miles of pristine beach were perfect for long, lovely walks. The food was delicious, lots of fresh fruit and tasty seafood, and service was faultless. The ambience of the lodge was just so chilled it's difficult to put into words. The local dive sites were amazing, with great visibility and such an abundance of colourful life, some of my best dives ever! A beautifully designed, extremely comfortable eco lodge in a gorgeous setting. Highly recommended.

There is nothing to be faulted about Blue Footprints and a lot to commend. It is in a lovely private location and there only 5 separate secluded rooms so it is never crowded. It overlooks the ocean and a beautiful sandy beach used by very very few people, mainly the occasional fisherman. All the staff are so friendly, very helpful and cannot do enough to make your stay perfect. This place is a little gem!

“Fantastic experience! ”

What a fantastic stay we had here. We felt very welcome and completely at home from the first moment we arrived. Liz and Lisa and their staff were superb...constantly ensuring our needs were met. The rooms are beautiful with fantastic full ocean views, food was excellent and very comendable considering the scarce availabilty of good products. Miles and miles of beautiful sandy beaches had us walking lots to discover what Bara and Tofo had to offer. Well worth the visit. We will definately be back. Thank you Blue Footprint team.

“A piece of paradise with a great view!”

I recently spent 3 nights at Blu Footprints and it was one of the highlights of my trip to South Africa & Mozambique. The rooms are lovely with spectacular views and enjoying the coffee delivered to our balcony every morning while watching the ocean was a great way to start the day. The food was another highlight. The breakfast was generous and delicious. The evening meals were also well-prepared and the service was friendly and attentive. Having a choice of two meals to choose from was also appreciated. However, the greatest thing about Blue Footprints are the people. Everyone who worked there treated us like we were family returning home. It is the first place I have ever stayed that made it a point to include all of the employees, which we found deeply touching. For us, having the chance to stay in the Blue Footprints is a reason to return to Mozambique.

“Superb in every way”

We have just returned from an 8 day stay with our four children aged 14-23. Our whole stay was a great joy. The lodge itself is beautifully thought out and designed and very comfortable. With only 5 chalets, sleeping 10 max, we had a very personalised stay. The service was exceptional and with lots of attention to detail. The staff could not have been more helpful, even looking after our youngest family member when the rest went scuba diving. There is so much to do in the area - mostly sea based. We went scuba diving with Diversity in Tofu, an ocean safari during which we had the pleasure of swimming with a whaleshark with Barra dive centre, snorkelling with seahorses at Barra Lake and Sea, deep sea fishing and had great fun quad biking to Tofinhio where we visited the slavery memorial. We commissioned some local fabric articles at the nearby road stall and enjoyed lunches at different establishments. The best was Green Turtle on Barra beach whose French proprietors produce delicious seafood at this lovely setting looking out on the beach.

“Tranquil, beautiful, eco-friendly oasis”

This beautifully designed, 5 chalet lodge situated on a fabulous stretch of beach just has to be the place to stay in Inhambane! We just spent 5 days escaping from the Cape winter and I can honestly say that this has to be one of the best lodges I’ve ever stayed at. World class food, passionate, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and 3 cute dogs to top it off! The lodge runs entirely off solar power – and you will never have a cold shower! Solar means no hairdryers (who needs that on a beach holiday?!) or kettles in the rooms, but early morning coffee or tea is delivered to your balcony every morning, and is available all day long. The food is unbelievable – Sam the chef creates the most delicious meals – and needless to say our choice was always the seafood option! There’s a lovely fresh breakfast every morning (amazingly large passion fruit included!) and a choice of two starters and main courses, with a surprise dessert each night. During our stay we enjoyed Barracuda, Crayfish, Tuna and enormous langoustines, served up with flair and accompanied by a salad and veggie dish. Desserts were delish – I’m missing those! The lodge is situated between Barra and Tofu – we spent some time on the beach in Barra and enjoyed the restaurants and activities on offer there. We had a great quad bike tour through the villages and via the back roads all the way to Tofu. The 2 hour trip with guide Jao was very reasonably priced and it was great to see how the locals lived. This time of the year is whale season, and we saw many of these gracious beasts leaping out of the ocean each day. The lodge staff arranged a lovely sunset picnic for us on top of the dunes – and what a sunset it was! And on that day we spent hours watching a couple of mom whales teaching their babies how to breach. Unforgettable! The Mozambique coastline is blessed with abundant sea life – the Humpback whales and dolphins, whale sharks, devil mantas which are only found there, and of course it’s a diver’s paradise. The lodge arranges transfers to whatever activity you choose. On our last night we returned to our room to find a beautiful handwritten note thanking us for staying, with a lovely little carved whale as a memento of our time there. Such a lovely touch. To Liz, Roxy, Kate and Lisa (and all of the other amazing staff members), thank you for a glorious holiday. We’ll definitely be back!

“A visit well worth waiting for!”

We have been planning a visit to Blue Footprints ever since we first found out about it; back in October 2013. We finally get there in June 2015 and have not been disappointed. Run on solar power only; and with delicious fresh water supplied from a borehole; the lodge is truly a delight. The chalets are all sea facing and finished to a very high standard. The food prepared by Sam was amazing; and all of the staff went about their work with a big smile on their faces. Liz and Kate were excellent hosts; keeping us entertained (and supplied with 2M and savanna) even on the 1 rainy day we experienced. The location is perfect; the beach is empty; yet 20 mins walk to the left and you are in Barra with a wide array of restaurants and bars; 1 hour 30 minutes walking in the other direction and you arrive in Tofo. So you can choose the pace of your day. There are also many other activities available that you can participate in. A particular highlight in humpback season is watching the whales playing in front of the lodge, nothing quite beats the sight of watching these magnificent beauties breaching and rolling. I cannot recommend this lodge highly enough - a 6* experience

“Romantic Getaway plus Scuba”

I have so many great things to say about this eco lodge I don't know where to begin. The accommodations were so tastefully appointed and comfortable, the food was delicious and thoughtfully prepared, the moonrise, sunrise and stars were magnificent and to top it all off the staff were attentive to all our needs and delightful. For a romantic getaway, with long walks on the unspoiled beach and falling asleep to the sounds of the waves; this place was second to none.

“6-Star Service in Paradise!”

Blue Footprints runs "off the grid" (only solar power), but don't let this fool you. The accommodation and communal areas are immaculately appointed, and the service is probably the best I've had anywhere. Nothing is too much trouble ... If it is possible, Liz & Roxy are happy to help. Beers are ice cold. Not mad about the wine selection? ... No problem; they'll source locally available wine for you. Want to dive or snorkel? No problem; they'll liaise with the dive center and transport you to and from the dive lodge. Want to go to Tofo market? No problem; they'll drop you off. Blue Footprints is an absolutely stunning place to spend a "blue sky" beach holiday ... I definitely plan to go back.

Freshly returned from the little corner of earthly heaven that is Blue Footprints. Now re-living our memories with our photographs and a little look through previous guests five star reviews - what more is to be said?! Everyone has captured the magical feel of the place, from the unique location high in the sand dunes, the tranquillity, waking to the sun rise over the Indian Ocean, the delicious food, the world class diving... and then there is the warmth and friendship of Lovely Liz, Gorgeous Roxy... and Kate... who all pampered way beyond the call of duty with a light touch and lots of humour. When we finally had to leave there was a tear in our eye and joy in our hearts. Well done the girls!

“Eco Luxury abstraction to max!”

Simple - yet spectacular in any way! Architecture is simple but stunningly nice - placed on a perfect dune within untouched nature! So far the best place we stayed in the country - probably also because the owner are personally present and welcome all guests with a very warm hug! You really feel home from the very first moment!

“Perfect In Every Way”

5 stars and worth every one. Our stay at this beautiful beach-side resort was nothing short of magical. The rooms are are perfectly situated on the picturesque dunes that overlook a quiet beach. Gorgeous sunrises and great coffee greet you every morning, followed by a delicious breakfast with an incredible view. We spent most of our time lazing around the deck, sipping on cocktails, reading, napping, eating and taking dips in the warm, inviting pool. The food is outstanding, with a lot of care taken to prepare unique meals that cater to all tastes. The chef might not eat shellfish himself, but he sure knows how to prepare this local Mozambican staple. The service is outstanding. The staff all go out of their way to ensure your stay is as carefree as possible. With only 5 cabins you're guaranteed personalised service to suit your every need. There's plenty to do in the area, including diving, restaurants, canoeing, a catamaran and boat trips out to sea. But if you're looking to just unwind, this resort is the perfect place to spend your time relaxing and taking in the natural beauty of the surrounds. I proposed to my now fiancé during our stay, and I must say, Liz went out of her way to ensure the experience was romantic and unforgettable. We were treated to sundonwers atop the highest dune and an amazing crayfish dinner on the beach. I highly recommend a stay at this amazing little gem. The views from the rooms add to the charm. The smiles and friendliness of the staff make you feel part of the family. We were truly sad to leave, and will definitely be going back.

“A very special lodge”

It's superb location high up in the sand dunes and attention to detail from the time you arrive helps this wonderful property stand out in more ways than one. This is an ideal location to get away from the hubbub of life and to relax whether it is an anniversary or birthday celebration or a honeymoon or just a vacation...this fits the bill! It's ambience and seclusion with stunning uninterrupted views looking out to sea makes you feel as though you are at one with the world! We had some fantastic food here too in this eco friendly abode, the sashimi and other dishes followed by freshly made mango sorbet I can still taste...delicious! A pleasant pool area with infinity view from the sunbeds says it all! I wish I had a writing desk in one of the casitas for a season... I am sure I could produce a Booker prize winning novel in this environment Thank you to Lizzie and her great team for their welcome and hospitality and I hope one day we are back to watch the whales pass by!

We just returned from an amazing family vacation at the BlueFootprints Lodge. The Lodge is in an absolutely spectacular location. The 5 chalets quite remote but are close enough to walk or drive to Barra or Tofo, and when you want to just relax there's a great deck and pool. All the chalets have a magnificent view, looking directly onto the beach and there are few other people around for kms in each direction. Our hosts were friendly and helpful and catered to all our needs. They gave great recommendations for local restaurants and activities. The most impressive aspect was their attention to detail - from coffee in the mornings on our doorstep to baking a cake for my mother's birthday to champagne and fantastic local entertainment on new years eve. Would recommend to others in a heartbeat!

“True eco luxury”

My wife and I spent four nights at Blue Footprints and it is without question one of the best places we've ever stayed. It is true eco-luxury, 100% self-sustaining but with no comfort and service sacrificed whatsoever. Amazing staff who cater to your ever need. Magnificent rooms that have stunning views of the Indian ocean. You will likely see more whales than people. Beautiful beach right in front of the property. Delicious food every meal we ate. Super fresh local produce and a piri piri chutney to die for. We caught yellow fin tuna one of the days we were staying there and the chef made the freshest sashimi we've ever had. If you like attention to detail, fantastic service, delicious food all while getting away from the crowds and doing so in an environmentally friendly manner, look no further.

“Incredible Honeymoon in Mozambique! Beautiful!!!”

Incredible hotel, wonderful staff, EXCELLENT FOOD! Blue Footprints was perfect for our honeymoon. They also have great relationships with all the other local vendors for activities like diving and ocean safaris. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

“Simply stunning”

We were blown away when we arrived at Blue Footprints to a very warm welcome, special drinks and snacks and one of the most beautiful views. Our stay was excellent, we enjoyed the remoteness and peacefulness of the lodge, the beach to ourselves and the wonderful fresh food. We were so torn between all the things to do in Inhambane and Tofo and sitting on our beautiful veranda for hours looking across the sea watching the humpback whales. Thank you BF!

Blue footprints Eco lodge is an amazing place! It's nestled in the sand dunes on a beautiful 12 km beach. There is a beautiful main building with swimming pool, bar and area for dinner and breakfast. There is then 5 lodges linked by wooden walk way all quite private. The rooms are immaculate thought has gone into every detail. A large double bed, positioned so you can lay in bed look out and see uninterrupted views of the Indian Ocean. We were very lucky and went during the Humpback migration, so lay in bed and watched humpbacks breaching. Coffee is delivered by the very attentive and friendly staff at a time of your choosing. At night dinner is served under the stars. The food is fantastic. It's romantic, relaxing and truly wonderful. If your going to the area it's a must. There is diving at Tofo and Barra not far away.
